Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki thanked Japan's Crown Prince Naruhito Thursday for his country's support in programmes to combat climate change, the government said.
The prince arrived in Nairobi late Wednesday for a three-day trip that follows a visit to Ghana.
Kibaki hailed Japan's "continued financial and technical support" notably in programmes to combat climate change, a statement from his office said.
After meeting with Kibaki, the prince visited a Japanese school in the outskirts of Nairobi.
Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka said when he welcomed the prince Wednesday that Japan was a "true development partner".
"There are many projects that the Japanese government has funded, particularly in infrastructural development," he said.
Prince Naruhito said his country appreciated collaboration with Kenya and would continue to partner it in various areas of development.
On Friday the prince will tour Sweetwaters game reserve in the Rift Valley and plant trees before visiting an agricultural development institute in Mwea in the centre of the country.
On Saturday he will visit the national museum in Nairobi before flying out of Kenya.
